CARD: THE CHEYENNE GRANDMOTHER

4 x 6

A lovely Northern Cheyenne woman named Woostah or White Buffalo Cow Woman, was the daughter of Morning Star (Dull Knife) who led his people on a heroic journey from imprisonment in Oklahoma – back home to the Tongue River country of Montana, fighting battles as they went and finally surrendering at Fort Robinson in the bitter winter of 1879. In her youth, she was considered the most beautiful girl of the Cheyenne. She was photographed by Julia Tuell in 1911.

Based on an original 16 x 12 oil on canvas by Cathy Smith.
